Multiple Flash - Image Bank

These images are all examples of multiple flash, multiple flash is not dissimilar to sequencing in the way that it is used to tell a story however they are different in the way that in sequencing you layer the photos so they are block images and if they overlap the layers are visible and not opaque like in these multiple flash images where the layers are obvious and it is almost as if the subject in the image is still moving - at least that is the aim of this technique.  Multiple flash has a really interesting look and technique to it which I will attempt when I study animals in Unit 3.

Slow Sync - Image Bank

Slow sync is a technique which is acquired by reducing the shutter speed on your camera. Reducing the shutter speed and using slow sync flash allows you to shoot in a variety of low light situations. As you can tell from the above photographs using slow sync flash maintains that there is ambient lighting in the foreground but the background is still registering. The technique is obviously great in low light situations meaning winter nights and parties can be captured and remembered in their full form rather than just the foreground of the image.

High Key - Image Bank

These images are all high key images which is known as a style lighting which is usually used for photos where the photographer aims to reduce the light ratio that is present in the scene. In the past high key was used for technological reasons however in the recent photography scene the lighting technique is now used to show up beat scenes and to expose certain dark areas of rather light photographs. I love all of the photographs above however my favourite has to be this last one where the technique has been used to draw attention to the models eyes which appear to have very dramatic makeup, this adds drama to the photograph. Another favourite of mine from this collection would have to be the chess pieces, I love the way the technique has been used to focus the attention on the queen chess piece in the centre of the photograph, signifying how important it is.

Multiple Imagery - Image Bank

These are examples of multiple imagery; multiple imagery is where the photographer takes photographs of one thing from multiple angles in order to capture the whole object. My favourite multiple imagery here is the one of the mouth, I love the way this focuses on the conflicting of beauty for example it is something which should be beautiful however the green dusting adds a dark quality to the photographs and challenges the way society views the face and makeup (with beauty'). Secondly, I really enjoy the multiple imagery where the photographs are combined with nature and fade in and out of each other, this challenges the viewer and encourages them to come up with their own concept. 

Close Up - Image Bank

This photograph is one example of a close up, the photographer has positioned the cat close to the frame then used the zoom lens to capture the look of concentration on the cats face. This close up mode enables the viewers of the photograph to watch the beautiful cat magnified.

This close up shot is magnificent, it is almost scientific in its beauty due to the way it shows the spreading evenly of the water. The water has spread in a way that almost looks as if it has been done on purpose, however it clearly hasn't as this may not even be possible to the naked eye.

I really love close up faces of models as I think its really amazing how well a close up can magnify the looks of someone, each individual feature is shown off just as every individuals features should be, The natural beauty of the human race shown through close up is something I will experiment with in my own close up shoot.

The close up here enables the viewer to see the fine threading that doesn't usually carry a massive cause for fascination however seeing a close up means people really the exact amount of determination that goes into creating a baseball, also the viewers are witnesses to the damage of play on a ball like this which there are in the form of rips.

Again this example of a close up image is almost scientific with it spreading of water, the way the water droplets naturally separate from each other is something new entirely Also the way they reflect the colour and surface underneath like a window to what they are shielding or covering.

Finally this image is an example of how sometimes we need close ups to see just how much time and effort goes into something but also how amazing it is that something is made. In one set of chalk there is probably a million particles of dust that make up about 12 sticks of chalk, these compacted together make chalk and this is only realised when a close up of a chalk stick and chalk dust is studied.

Wide Angle - Image Bank

This variation of a wide angle shot uses depth to emphasize the main subject of the photograph which is the married couple however the clever angle used by the photographer allows there to be a beautiful backdrop for the photo. The darker tones on the corners of the photograph give the illusion of a fish-bowl lens but also add tone to the photograph.

This photo emanates a feeling of helplessness, the railway track is extended deep into the photograph by the use of the wide angle technique, the amazing line of trees down one side gives a leading line for the viewers eye to follow the same way the eyes of the viewers will go straight down the middle until they can no longer see the track.

This photo is almost like photographic trickery, what seems like a boring photograph of a bench and decking actually gives a beautiful view of a seaside town and its harbour and small pier, the drama is not signified and played down but this is one of those photos that follows the idea that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

In this magnificent frame that has been captured, the entire crowd fits into the frame and the sky acts as if its disrupted aesthetic is a reflection of the crowds intensity surrounding the upcoming baseball game. The baseball pitch almost looks like a toy where the photographer has managed to squeeze its capacity into the frame.

This stunning photo looks almost like a painting with the way the photographer has captured this angle. The sky appears as though it could be a sea due to the impressive wide angle used, the buildings are given this effect where it looks like they're much further away at the bottom than they are at the top.

This photo is using the wide angle technique to add length to this bridge, by taking the photo from this angle it adds depth to the image and adds drama  to the bridge, it looks like this brige goes on for miles due to the way you can see what looks like an island behind it!

Picture within a Picture - Image Bank

This photograph is very interesting due to the fact that the photographer has edited it to make it two tone, this image is essentially one photograph however the photographer has made it look like two images by changing the colour of the section within the frame. The frame acts as a barrier and separation between the coloured image and the monochrome image.

This image is extremely interesting as the photographer has had the model pose with a frame to create a spiralling illusion through the photograph, though these photos could all be mistaken to be the same photograph repeated thrice, they are actually three different photographs of the same model. The black and white tones on this photograph add depth to the photo.

This photograph is a cleverly done photo whereby the addition of a frame makes it seem as though the children are holding a photograph of a marriage when it is actually the subjects standing in the background and foreground aligned with the frame.

This photograph exhibits an image within an image by taking two photographs of exactly the same area then erasing a section of the photograph which creates a see through mirror effect or framing of a certain area.

This photograph is a very old way of a picture within a picture, this is done with no photo manipulation it is just done by taking a photograph of the woman's reflection from a certain angle, the photographer had to try hard to not get the camera in the reflection but also take this photograph from the front angle.

This picture within a picture is a backwards reflection, the images shown within the glasses are almost like they are showing the true function of actual glasses, magnifying the thing behind them. The powerful message that is communicated within this image is prevalent by the magnification.

Sequencing - Image Bank

I chose to study this first image as I love the way the journey is shown through the layered images, I find it fascinating to look at how the woman's body changes shape during the dive, as she makes her way to the water. The transition from the top of the cliff to the water is shown through layering the photographs onto each other.

I really like this photograph because it really shows a sequence within the photograph, the man takes the stick from the dog then throws it into the water and the dog watches as it lands. The journey of the stick is shown with the multiple photographs

This sequence is so cool and I really like it, I would love to be able to create a sequence like this one where you can see every stage of the skateboarders journey over the jump, sequences are almost used to tell a story.

This is an interesting and different type of sequencing photos due to the fact that they have made a sequence of three photos of three difference sequences, so almost like combining picture within a picture with sequencing. 

I like the way this photograph combines sequencing and tone which adds depth to the photo, the journey of the plane adds depth as the plane gets closer with every stage it takes, the dark tinges to the corners add tone and depth to the photograph.

This photo is almost like multiple imagery instead of sequencing however it shows the sequence of how the art progresses, I love the way the photographer or editor has managed to align the photos so there is four in each row even if they are not equal.

Location Portraiture - Image Bank

This set of photos are examples of Location Portraiture. Location portraiture is where a photographer takes a photographic portrait of someone on location, so outside, in a setting which is why these photographs are taken in forests, gardens, near buildings and lakes etc. My favourite one of these images is of the girl by the tree as I think the photographer has framed the photograph really nicely and maintained a nice amount of blurring. Another one of these photographs that I really like is this last one as I think the important background parts to this particular image are still included - e.g. car, bulding - however due to the blurring and use of minimum depth of field the main subject is the man.
