Evaluation  - Close Up & Wide Angle

In my close up shoot I really enjoyed shooting the close ups and getting the nice blurred background similar to minimum depth of field. I really enjoyed capturing the main aspects of my subjects face such as her eyes and mouth, these were big things to focus on for me, in order to maintain the portrait side of close ups I made sure to fit the top of her head and her chin firmly into the frame, the way the top of the models head touches the frame helps the composition of the photographs.

I didn't enjoy wide angle as much as I enjoyed close ups due to the fact I find it much harder to shoot areas than people as you can ask people what to do but areas and locations are unpredictable. However, this unpredictability is one of the reasons I've chosen to study nature for Unit 3 so hopefully I can perfect the skills I am beginning to learn. I certainly thought wide angle was challenging as I had to attempt to fit a lot more in the frame than I am used to, capturing the shots from a low wide angle helped me to capture the correct type of shots.

Progression - Close Up & Wide Angle

With regards to progression for close ups they don't necessarily apply to the topic I have chosen for Unit 3 in the essence that I photographed people for my shoot but I would like to try and include close ups in my investigation into animals and seasons as I think this would work very well, photographing the animals especially due to the different textures, reactions and all round interesting things you could capture. However the angle I would like to take with seasons and close ups is of puddles on the ground, I am interested in combining wide angle with close ups.

Speaking of wide angle, the way I wish to carry this on would be to survey the surroundings of the animals in a safari park and use wide angle to capture them. Also I would really enjoy taking staged photographs of buildings in three different seasons and have decided I may want to use wide angle to do this. Another aspect I will use wide angle in in the future will be when I begin to focus on landscapes, It would be amazing to capture some wide angle shots of cliffs and coastlines if the opportunity arose due to the fact that all the ones I have studied look magnificent.

This variation of a wide angle shot uses depth to emphasize the main subject of the photograph which is the married couple however the clever angle used by the photographer allows there to be a beautiful backdrop for the photo. The darker tones on the corners of the photograph give the illusion of a fish-bowl lens but also add tone to the photograph.

This photo emanates a feeling of helplessness, the railway track is extended deep into the photograph by the use of the wide angle technique, the amazing line of trees down one side gives a leading line for the viewers eye to follow the same way the eyes of the viewers will go straight down the middle until they can no longer see the track.

This photo is almost like photographic trickery, what seems like a boring photograph of a bench and decking actually gives a beautiful view of a seaside town and its harbour and small pier, the drama is not signified and played down but this is one of those photos that follows the idea that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

In this magnificent frame that has been captured, the entire crowd fits into the frame and the sky acts as if its disrupted aesthetic is a reflection of the crowds intensity surrounding the upcoming baseball game. The baseball pitch almost looks like a toy where the photographer has managed to squeeze its capacity into the frame.

This stunning photo looks almost like a painting with the way the photographer has captured this angle. The sky appears as though it could be a sea due to the impressive wide angle used, the buildings are given this effect where it looks like they're much further away at the bottom than they are at the top.

This photo is using the wide angle technique to add length to this bridge, by taking the photo from this angle it adds depth to the image and adds drama  to the bridge, it looks like this brige goes on for miles due to the way you can see what looks like an island behind it!
