Shoot 5 - Personal Project - Work Diary
E V A L U A T I O N
In this shoot I very much wanted to experiment with back of head portraiture - something I learnt in Unit 1. However I wanted to use some photoshop skills and decided to edit the colours of the hair in order to show my skills. I really enjoyed doing this shoot as I found it was really creative and really followed my project well.

If I were to re do this I would use more models and more hair colours. My next shoot will be front of head photography and traditional portraits with a modern twist, I am planning to use colour to add a vibrant twist to the photographs.

Shoot 4 - Personal Project - Work Diary
E V A L U A T I O N
In this shoot I transferred the skills from the last shoot and once again focused on the sugar skull/day of the dead makeup that I had focused on before. However, this time I took the idea to the studio to see the effects the shoot would have in a different location. This shoot worked very well and I liked the ways that the studio camera and the lighting managed to give the sugar skull makeup a new life and almost create a different meaning, the photos are more uplifting and seem like happy photos rather than sad. This time I did half the face in face paint rather than the whole face to show off a slightly lighter tone.

Given the chance to attempt this shoot again I would, however a second time round I would experiment with darker colours and different facepaint. I am interested in using red face paint and creating a much more dramatic look for my models whilst using dark backgrounds which would bring out the colours of the makeup much more and make them vibrant against the background. My next shoot is one where I focus on hair colours which is going to be the shoot which is going to help me transition from the beauty side of the project to the fashion side.

Shoot 3 - Personal Project - Work Diary
E V A L U A T I O N
In this shoot I drifted towards more traditional portraiture and focused on people within my pictures rather than animals. However I preferred to look at the beauty side of the topic rather than the traditional side just yet. To portray beauty I decided to do a sugar skull face paint on one of my models, I used a bedroom as the location for my shoot to go with the theme which I wanted to be beauty, I had my model sit at a makeup table and stare into the mirror. The sugar skull makeup I created sometimes comes across quite scary and with these photographs I feel like it hints at the darker side of beauty and the industry that surrounds it.

I really enjoyed this shoot and I think it has definitely helped me progress into a new area of my project. I enjoyed taking photos of the sugar skull makeup and loved the effect it had on my model. If I were to do this shoot again I would choose a location with better lighting as the lighting in this room made it very difficult for me to take photographs. Interestingly enough my next shoot I plan to do which links to this shoot is another sugar skull shoot however I am planning to do this shoot in a studio with proper lighting rather than a bedroom, I am interested to see the effect different lighting has on the make up applied.

Shoot 2 - Personal Project - Work Diary
E V A L U A T I O N
In this shoot I focused on taking photographs of a domestic animal rather than a wild one. This time I chose a rabbit and despite the fact home owned pets are used to being given instructions it was very difficult to photograph this animal. They tend to move quite a lot and I didn't have the right camera or equipment to combat this. If I had a DSLR camera then I could've used a continuous shooting mode and the rabbits movement would've been less of an issue. Despite the issues I did enjoy this shoot, it was very fun and despite the fact they don't understand animals tend to be very good models and I feel I got some good images.

If I were to do this shoot again I would most definitely take the time to either purchase my own better equipment or borrow some from someone else as it was very difficult to shoot this animal. Another thing I would change if I were to do a photo shoot on domestic animals again would be to use an animal which is maybe more susceptible to understanding instructions - like a dog or even a cat? My next shoot is going to focus on a new aspect of portraiture which is batty, rather a big jump however in my proposal I outlined my desire to focus on four different areas of portraiture.
